Talaria TL5000 (MX5) Review: Opinions, Improvements & Parts JWSHOP

Is the Talaria TL5000 (MX5 / Sting R Pro) up to the task? We tested it for you! After the TL3000 and TL4000, Talaria is back with a new version of its electric motorcycle, and at Jo & Will, we couldn't wait to see it. Here's our full review of the TL5000, focusing on improvements, weaknesses, and spare parts to optimize your machine!

Talaria TL5000: Is the New Generation a Revolution?

Talaria has accustomed us to high-performance models in the lightweight electric motorcycle segment, pioneered by the Sur-Ron Light Bee. The TL5000 (or MX5, Sting R Pro, you name it!) offers significant improvements over the TL4000, particularly in terms of the chassis and battery. Available in a homologated (50cc) or off-road version (up to 100km/h on private land), it promises interesting performance. But is it enough?

Battery and Power: More Watts, Really?

The TL5000 is equipped with a 72V 40Ah (2880Wh) battery, providing a power of 13.4kW. While the power gain is appreciable compared to the TL4, the advertised range (around 30km in real conditions) remains a weak point. At JWSHOP, we offer custom 72V 55Ah batteries that could well be the solution to boost the range of your TL5000! Stay tuned, they're coming soon!

Our testers noted a smooth throttle response, even in "Hard" mode, suggesting a heavier weight. While the frame hasn't changed, the new battery cover alters the bike's line, an aesthetic choice that won't please everyone. On the plus side, the cover is now removable, making it easier to access the battery.

Cycle Part: Notable Improvements... But Not Perfect

Talaria has revised several elements of the chassis. The braking has been improved with larger levers, master cylinders and calipers, as well as 3mm thick discs. A good thing, considering the weight of the machine (133.4kg without battery, 16kg with battery). The double spring and double air chamber fork is perfectible; we prefer models with a single spring and a hydraulic part (like on the Fastace) or those with two springs (like on the Ultra Bee) for more reliability.

The rear of the bike has also been reinforced: a 1cm thickened swingarm, a rear axle lengthened from 12mm to 15mm, and a 428 chain. While the goal is to improve rigidity and reliability, these changes contribute to a heavier bike. For Will, a 420 chain with an anti-derailleur would have been a better compromise. Speaking of anti-derailleurs, the stock one is adjustable, which is a good thing.

The Verdict: A Good Compromise, But...

The Talaria TL5000 is a good motorcycle, an evolution of the TL4. It's stable, well-equipped, and more powerful. However, its weight and price (more expensive than the TL4000, which is close to the Ultra Bee) may put some buyers off. It lacks standard range, and the stock tires urgently need replacing to fully exploit its potential.

Our testers noted a strange feeling, an "in-between": manageable at times, heavy at others, with watts... or not! The absence of a regeneration trigger is also regrettable. In short, a motorcycle that needs to be optimized to reveal its full potential!
